Whenever I remormat my computer or purchase a new one; I always have a set of programs that are essential to me. Here is my list, in no particular order … :

Mozilla Firefox - Web Browser

TrueCrypt - Protect my data
WinRAR - Archive my data
Microsoft Office 2007 - Word Processor
Visual Studio (C Sharp) - for writing programs
VLC Media Player - Video player
CCleaner - Cleaner for the computer
JKDefrag - the ultimate defrag program
I’m sure there are others, I’ll add them as I think of them. I am going to get a new computer soon and I want to remind myself of the things that I need to install.

Windows Defender
This is a great product to go with any Windows installation. It was formally owned by Giant Software before Microsoft acquired it (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/dec04/12-16GIANTPR.mspx).
I use this to complement Avast! Free Antivirus so I have Virus and Spyware covered. 
How to format your External Hard Drive to work with the Xbox 360
This is an easy solution to get your Xbox 360 to recognize your External Hard Drive.
The Xbox 360 reconizes only FAT 32 formatted drives, but Windows won’t let you format to FAT 32 on a drive bigger than 32GB. So I use the utility below to format.

Once installed, you should be able to format your drive to be recognizable with the Xbox 360!
You may have space missing in the new format, but that’s normal.
Fake AntiSpyware programs
I am still amazed how easy it is for people to mistake adware as legitamate programs for removing spyware. An example of this just came to me today as I was cleaning another persons computer. This program was called SpyDefender Pro.
You can tell it definately plays on peoples fears and it can trick many people very easily to give money to them. It was easily removed with a combination of Spybot Search & Destroy and ComboFix.
